Cutting down on the number of cartridges used by its Pro-1 series photo printer Canon has introduced a Canon Pixma Pro-100 A3+ photo printer. The Canon Pixma Pro-1 uses 12 cartridges whereas the Canon Prima Pro-100 uses 8 cartridges cutting on the cartridge cost considerably from $ 430 to $ 135. In the retail market the price for the eight cartridges pack could be even lesser. The onetime cost of the printer would be slightly high at around $ 500.
Although there are only 8 inks in the Canon Pixma Pro-100, it is capable of reproducing fine details on an A3+ paper because of its smaller droplet size which is 3pl. The Canon Pixma Pro-100 uses dye based a cartridge which provides a fine and higher glossy finish than the pigment inks printers. The picture resolution stands at 4800 x 2400 dpi. The printer has a very good finish with sturdy paper input and output trays.
Canon Pixma Pro-100
What I like the most are its control buttons. They look very robust. The weight of the Canon Pixma Pro-100 will be on the little higher side at 19.7Kg and so is its size. It’s out of the box dimensions are 689 x 385 x 215mm (27.13 x 15.16 x 8.46 inches). One needs to think whether to keep it next to the monitor on table or let it reside on the ground.
One drawback that I saw is its small size cartridge size. Thinking that the A3+ photo paper would be hungry for inks, Canon should have given high capacity ink cartridges. The Canon Pixma Pro-100 is equipped with 13ml cartridges. One will have to keep on replacing cartridges regularly.
The Canon Pixma-100 has Wi-Fi connectivity, a USB 2.0 port and an Ethernet connection. One can also print from iOS and Android devices wirelessly using Canon’s mobile printing app.
