Nokia smartphones, NFC and art mix well in Krakow’s National Museum

nokia nfc Nokia smartphones, NFC and art mix well in Krakow’s National MuseumToday can be said to be historical in a place that holds a rich legacy of history itself – that is, the National Museum in Krakow. Why so, you ask? For starters, it marks the beginning of NFC (Near Field Communications) technology being implemented in the museum itself, where NFC-enabled Nokia smartphones are able to gain access to additional information concerning an exhibit through the simple touch of the phone against an exhibit tag. Perhaps with a more interactive experience in museums, the younger generation might give Google a miss for once in their lives when they intend to look something up, but rather, spend some time in a museum instead. The key to museums attracting crowds from the new generation would be to ensure visitors are able to interact or engage with their exhibits, and what better way to do it than with a smartphone and NFC technology? You can borrow a Nokia C7 to get the job done, or use your own NFC-enabled smartphone if you so desire.

NFC stands for Near Field Communication, which is a standard for low-speed wireless short range communications between electronic devices. Popular applications of NFC are public transportation passes and some form of electronic wallet, but many more applications remains to be tested and implemented. NFC is a cousin of RFID and uses some of the same communications protocols.

Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook Coming next Week, User Manuals Available Now

xps 13 ultrabook thumb Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook Coming next Week, User Manuals Available NowWe covered the unveiling of the Dell XPS 13 during CES 2012, which revealed some general information and specifications. But maybe you’re still looking for more details to help decide whether you want to throw a thousand bucks at Dell’s new XPS 13 Ultrabook? Well, it looks like you counted your lucky stars because several user manuals and documentation have found their way online a week before its release! The guides contain a plethora of information including detailed specifications and other things like pictorial instructions on how to remove many of the XPS 13’s parts, such as the keyboard, battery, and I/O board.

Overall, we believe that the XPS 13 will be a strong Ultrabook competitor; its high quality and compact design and its 13-inch screen definitely make this laptop unique and is great for those who prefer a smaller footprint for their laptop. However, the lack of an SD card reader and HDMI port might curb some enthusiasts from buying it.

Here’s the list of leaked documentation, so have a read and decide for yourselves!

The XPS 13 owner’s manual has guides on how to disassemble the XPS 13 such as you see in the diagram below that shows how to remove the SSD:

AppSense launches DataLocker

datalocker AppSense launches DataLockerEver heard of AppSense before? They are the leading provider of user virtualization technology, and today has just announced AppSense Labs. This research arm of the AppSense global research and development group intend to look at ways on creating new technologies which will push the boundaries of user-centric computing. Their sole focus is to research technologies which comprise cloud, mobile and data, in addition to constructing new prototypes which will deliver a consumer experience to IT. One of their first innovative products would be DataLocker. DataLocker is different from other personal cloud services like Dropbox, as it offers the ability to encrypt sensitive information in one’s account without having to sacrifice the convenience of anywhere access.

The DataLocker suite is unsurprisingly free as a download, and will also include native clients for Windows, Mac, iPhone and iPad. You will be able to pick up the Windows and Mac DataLocker applications here, while a universal DataLocker iOS application for the iPhone and iPad is available over at the App Store.

Asus Transformer, Acer Iconia, Asus Slate Win 7 Tablet Review

This is a review and comparison of the Asus Transformer, Acer Iconia A500, and Asus Windows 7 tablets. The Asus Transformer is a nice tablet with great graphics screen picture. The processor works extremely well within this tablet. It doesn’t play all movies as you would expect. It plays most MP4 and some .avi but it’s hit or miss with .avi even after installing codec pack. Not able to read or write to added storage space even after last Android update. The Acer Iconia is a nice tablet as well. You can read and write directly to added storage space after last update from Android. iconia will play most movie formats after codec installation. have not tried .MKV files. the Iconia is about a second slower than the ASUS. a second to a split second I guess. This could however be attributed to the fact that I have twice as many, if not 3 times the apps installed on the Iconia vs the Asus Transformer. Both Asus Transformer and Iconia will identify network and stream media to or from device or to any PC connected to the network. Both these cost about the same at 8 Iconia and 9 Asus Transformer. Lastly we have the ASUS SLATE Windows 7 Home Premium. This is the best tablet I’ve bought and the most surprising of all. i was pleasantly surprised to find that it is a fully functioning PC in tablet form. This machine works better than most Windows Desktops. It does exactly what you’d expect to, and better than you would expect. I expected to get a machine that at least would do

iPad 3 to be launched in Germany March 23rd?

13 iPad 3 iPad 3 to be launched in Germany March 23rd?If you happen to be in Germany during the end of March, you might be able to pick up an iPad 3 away from home. According to a report from the folks at iFun.de, they heard from their sources that the iPad 3 will go on sale in Germany on March 23rd. Judging by Apple’s track record of the iPad 2′s availability in Germany, it’s not too farfetched to believe the date. The iPad 2 was announced on March 2, made available in the US on March 11th and reached Germany along with a number of other countries on the 25th – mere weeks after the announcement. If the iPad 3 makes its debut on March 7th like it’s been previously rumored about, expect the iPad 3 to arrive sometime during the end of March in Germany (and other countries) then.

iOS was once upon a time called iPhone OS, or “operating system”, which is the software that provides all the basic device functionality and is the interface between the hardware and applications. iOS was introduced with the iPhone on January 9 2007, and it was originally not intended to be programmable by third parties. Steve Jobs had envisioned that developers could create Web Apps that would run in the browser. This changed less than one year after when the iPhone SDK (software development kit) was introduced in October 2007. Today, hundreds of thousands of apps have been created for this platform. iPhone OS became iOS on June 2010. Interestingly, both iPhone and iOS were former trademarks of Cisco, that Apple now uses under a license.

Google TV with Siri UI and special Remote Controls

Google TV Remote 300x217 Google TV with Siri UI and special Remote ControlsGoogle and Apple have been at a head to head battle for some time with competing products and even legal battles, however now Google is battling another opponent: Samsung.

About six days before Siri and iCloud were launched by Apple, Google was hurrying to apply at the US Patent and Trademark Office for a patent on their new Google TV remote/app. This app would use voice commands for all of the necessary Google TV functions (much like Siri and the iPhone 4GS), pattentlyapple reports.

Unfortunately for Google, Samsung has already announced a new TV remote that has voice controls and even a touch pad. So the battle between the new Google TV remote and the Samsung TV remote has already begun, but which is better? Let’s take a look at the various features for each next generation remote below!

Next Gen. Google TV Remote

The Google engineers state that the idea behind their new remote is based on the fact that people are interacting with various types of computers and now people are working more with smart phones, TV’s, DVR’s, and various other devices. Since computers and technology itself have evolved a lot it only made sense to integrate a UI.

The Siri-like UI Google is integrating into their TV remotes will have a variety of capabilities that will certainly set it apart from competition. One such feature is the ability to tell your Android Phone to get your TV show ready before you are home (yes even if the TV is off!). The future Android phone will be able to turn on the TV and control it when the user is within a certain distance from home. Apparently you can command your phone to do this…from the office, then when you are about a fourth mile from home, your Android will just turn on your TV and have it all set for you.

Additionally, the Android will also display information that is not very suitable for larger screens. Such information like show listings, won’t strain your eyes anymore when it’s on the big screen; now you can simply look down and see it right on your phone!

Another interesting thing about the new Google TV remote is that the voice command system will be entirely cloud based. Cloud storage is used to store information on a remote server so that space is saved on devices. In the case of the remote and the Android, the information shared between the two devices will be sent to the cloud where the other device will come and retrieve it.

Next Gen. Touchscreen Samsung TV Remote

Samsung TV Remote CES 2012 Google TV with Siri UI and special Remote ControlsVoice recognition technology is growing by leaps and bounds and Samsung’s new TV remote with a touch pad and voice recognition demonstrates that. It will be released sometime this year and will have a microphone on the remote that will allow the user to change channels, sound and even input functions.

Samsung demonstrated their new technology at the CES earlier, however it has since been vastly improved thanks to Bluetooth and infrared integration.

So, which is the next generation TV remote that will blow our mind later this year? We have to wait a little, but for now the touch pad remote from Samsung may have a leg up on the Google remote!

Asus Eee Pad Transformer 2 Insight

Please check out my other channel here for all things Android www.youtube.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Newer video with more up to date info here www.youtube.com After months of waiting, it’s almost here. The Asus Transformer 2 is without a doubt the most anticipated tablet of 2011 and the first teaser video has just been released by Asus. All we know now is that it’s thinner than the ipad2 at 8.4mm, tshiny, lighter, has a quad core processor, the first of its kind, and now hosts a led flash. Also, the new android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich user interface has been confirmed on it and confirmed that it will arrive very soon to the original Transformer aswell. The cost has not been confirmed, but it is most likely going to be 9. That may seem like a bit much for Asus’s budget friendly Transformer 1, but you’re getting technology no other tablet has and in a much thinner package. Would I recommend waiting for it? HELL YES! Without a doubt! This thing will blow the iPad 2 out of the water and for the same price; the Transformer 2 could easily demolish all competition. The original Transformer still holds more than half of the Android tablet market and this will surely do even better than that! There has been no official release date yet, but it is expected to be before the end of the month. Thanks so much for watching and if you like my stuff please subscribe! Remember once I hit 500 I’ll be starting those giveaways! UPDATE: The official release

Hitler gets angry when he comes to know about the Transformer Prime delay. Edit: Asus has locked the bootloader on the Transformer prime, meaning we will not have any custom ROMs and homebrew hacks till we get a possible fix. Petition Asus to correct this, and open up your device to allow you to be in its full control. Tweet: @Asus @Nvidia Unlock OUR Boot Loader! Fix GPS! #TransformerPrime More info: forum.xda-developers.com www.change.org Edit 2: Good news, everyone- Asus has pledged to make an unlock tool for the locked bootloader a la HTC. We can finally have the modder community at work on the device once it is out. Hopefully Asus will stay true to the promise and release the tool soon. BTW Ice cream sandwich is coming out on the 12 January 2012 for the Prime!

iTunes Store rumored to be undergoing redesign

17 itunes logo iTunes Store rumored to be undergoing redesignHeads up folks, if the rumors are to be believed, it looks like Apple could be giving the iTunes Store a redesign which will be the first time in three years since it has last seen a makeover. The plans to revamp iTunes has been revealed to several record labels and entertainment companies which we guess is only natural, but while the exact details of the redesign remains somewhat of a mystery for now, what 9to5 Mac has learnt is that a redesign for the Mac/Windows version of iTunes is a “top priority”.

According to the report, the goal for the new iTunes is to make it more interactive, simpler, use-friendly and more efficient in terms of how users locate new content and making it a more engaging experience, with music, movies, TV shows and the App Store being the main focus. No word if Apple will be relaunching the iTunes Store alongside a brand new version of the iTunes application, or if it will come in the form of a minor update. iTunes users out there, what do you think? Could the current version of the iTunes Store do with a redesign, or are you pretty happy with the way things are?
