The latest iteration of the popular ThinkPad X-series, the X240, is now up on the Lenovo.com website and available for order. However, brace yourself for sticker shock, the starting price is $ 1,485 and that’s on the base model. Add a few desirable options, such as a Core i5 processor and IPS screen, and the price closes in on $ 2,000. There are no promotions or coupons to help knock the price down, so you’re going to really have to want this new X240 notebook to justify the costs. Let’s look at some of the options that are available to configure right now:
Processor: Intel Core i3-4010U, Intel Core i5-4200U on MB [add $ 50.00], Intel Core i5-4300U on MB [add $ 150.00], Intel Core i7-4600U on MB [add $ 320.00]
Screen: 12.5 HD (1366 x 768), X240 12.5HD IPS [add $ 80.00]
The processor upgrade to a Core i5 is one you’ll want to make along with the IPS screen, so right away that adds $ 130 to the price tag. The memory upgrades or SSD upgrades are probably better handled and cheaper to do after market on your own. It’s unfortunate to see that the 1080p screen option is not available at this time, apparently we’ll have to wait a few more months for that. The estimated shipping for anyone that orders now is around 12-days. However, it might be better to just practice patience and wait for a sale to come around and prices to drop.
