Motorola Xoom 2 on its way (photos)

After a not so convincing debut, Motorola is preparing the second generation Xoom. The tablet will feature a faster processor, different looks and hopefully a cheaper price tag.

When the original Motorola Xoom came out there was a high level of expectation. A bold commercial, incredible features and the possibility to chose something else than an iPad were its strongest marks. Unfortunately the enormous price tag and the lack of two important features (flash and microSD support) made the first Xoom a total flop.

Hopefully Motorola has learned from its mistakes. Recent photo leaks give us some info regarding the next generation Xoom. It appears that not one Xoom will see the day of light but actually two. The second one will apparently be named Xoom Media Edition.

The first model will keep the 10.1″ 1280×800 display but it will come with a faster 1.2GHz processor, 1GB RAM and Full HD (1920×1080 pixels) video recording. The same people who released the leaks claim the new Xoom will be only 9mm thick and get up to 11 hours of battery life.

The second model will be much lighter (0.92 lbs) and it will come with an 8.2″ display. Being a multimedia oriented device it will also come with an IR remote and a subwoofer (speaking of subwoofers, check out our Asus N55SF review).

.

The launch date for the two Xooms are still a mistery but we’ll probably see them during CES 2012. And let’s hope they’ll have a better price tag.
