Can We Finally Stop Predicting the Death of Game Consoles?

As I’ve said here before, I’m an avid gamer, and I’ve owned just about every game console that has hit store shelves. And each device — yes, even the 3DO — I have been impressed and entertained with in one way or another. So, when I hear industry experts or veterans talk about the death of game consoles, I can’t help but get a little upset. After all, consoles have been a key part of my life for as long as I can remember. [Image credit: Jeff the Trojan] But then I think clearly about the arguments being made for the death of game consoles and I just start to laugh. After all, that’s all you can do when you hear such nonsense, right? One of the central arguments for the death of game consoles in the near future is the growth of downloadable content. Supporters of the idea say [...]

Aakash tablet finally launched

Last week we got some info regarding the cheapest tablet money can buy. Now we get to know its name, specs and real price. Curious? You should be. Aakash will be the name on everybody’s lips when thinking about the cheapest tablet on the market. And it won’t be a dumb tablet. The Aakash will run Android 2.2 and will come with 32GB internal storage. Weighing only 350 grams the Aakash will also feature a 7″ display and 256MB RAM, thus making it a rather slow tablet but let’s face it: the Aakash has a different purpose than the others. The tablet has been tested in high temperatures to match the ones of an Indian summer (up to 118 degree Fahrenheit). The 2100 mAh battery isn’t great but at least Aakash will come with two USB ports. The Indian government is pricing the Aakash at $ 35 for students and $ [...]

Crysis finally gets ported onto consoles

The graphics heavy beast gets reworked so it can run on the Xbox and PS3 Crysis is four years old now, but when the shooter first sprang onto the PC flaunting its graphical gorgeousness, they said it would never be seen on this generation of consoles. It would bring their GPUs to their knees. Well, apparently they were wrong – “they” often are – although it has taken quite some time to port the game over to the Xbox 360 and PS3. However, Crytek has finally managed it, and you can now bag Crysis down at Xbox Live or on the PSN. Yes, EA has released this one digitally, not as a boxed copy. And be warned, it’s a pretty hefty 5GB download, so you might need to make some space on the old hard drive if you’ve got a small disk. EA promises improved gamepad controls and “fine-tuned” combat, [...]

Finally, a fully positive Viral Video

There’s a video out there this weekend, folks one called “Webcam 101 for Seniors”, one that if you haven’t already seen, you’re sure as heck about to. It features a couple of United States citizens by the names of Bruce and Esther Huffman who unknowingly captured themselves in a video attempting to make their computer’s webcam take a photo. While this at first may seem like any other “fail” sort of video that’d make those in the video feel embarrassed beyond belief, this complete accident is making the Huffman’s smile as well. It’s a joy for me to publish such a story, especially since this whole story started when the now senior Bruce Huffman was paid 5 cents to make his most impressive and professional monkey face when he was eight years old. Strange, isn’t it, that such a reality has come to pass. It was barely science fiction when [...]
