HIOD One cycling communicator keeps you in touch with up to five other riders
I can understand when you are in a noisy environment or riding a motorcycle that having some sort of communication system with others is a big deal. There are a bunch of Bluetooth devices for motorcyclists, but not so much for the bicyclist that needs to communicate with a group that might be spread over a distance. A new device has launched for the cyclist called the HIOD One that uses Bluetooth and can connect up to five cyclists in a group. You can talk to one rider at a time over distances of up to 1,300 feet away with an intercom feature. The device will also allow for handsfree phone calls and users can listen to music. The device apparently has a few drawbacks though. The head unit mounts to the handlebars of the bike and has an OLED screen with lots of contrast for viewing in different conditions, [...]

CN: Five reasons Adobe’s CS6 subscription is smart
Adobe Systems is about to begin a difficult — but smart — transition. The San Jose, Calif.-based company will overhaul its core software business in May when it launches a subscription service called Creative Cloud, which bundles its new Creative Suite 6 products with a swath of other products and services. To make it a success, it’ll have to convince customers that it’s a better value than traditional software licensing. Here’s an indicator of how hard the change will be: A CNET survey in March showed a frosty reception, with 41 percent of respondents viewing Creative Cloud negatively, compared with 32 percent who viewed it positively. And 62 percent reacted negatively to its price: Creative Cloud costs $ 50 monthly with a year’s commitment or $ 75 monthly with an month-to-month option that’s easier to switch on and off. A Team edition for businesses will arrive later this year at [...]

Chinese authorities indict five over teen selling kidney for iPhone and iPad
How badly do you want an iPhone and iPad? A Chinese teen sold his kidney to set his hands on the devices…and authorities have charged five people. Authorities in south China have laid charges against five people in a chase that, we hope, will be unique in technology history. The five are charged with intentional injury for organizing the removal — and subsequent transplant — of a kidney from a seventeen year-old high school student. According to China’s official Xinhua news agency, the defendants include organ brokers, a hospital contractor, and a surgeon. Other suspects are still being investigated. The kidney removal and transplant took place last April. The student, identified only by the surname Wang, was given 22,000 yuan (about US$ 3,500) for his kidney. He then returned home, where his mother immediately questions how he was able to afford a new iPad 2 and iPhone. The student told [...]

You can reach him at rip[at]techcrunch[dot]com → Learn More A warning: You can only spam Twitter so much before it brings in the law. As Twitter grows — the company now claims to have 140 million active users — naturally, it’s become an attractive target for spammers, which have collectively made their drek a familiar part of the social network’s user experience. Now Twitter is officially putting its foot down and enlisting the help of the federal courts, filing a suit in San Francisco today against its five most aggressive spammers. In pursuing legal action, Twitter said in a statement on its blog, it believes it’s going “straight to the source”. By shutting down tool providers, we will prevent other spammers from having these services at their disposal. Further, we hope the [...]
Observe World Backup Day 2012 with five easy solutions for stashing your files
Rest easy on World Backup Day 2012 by using one of these five easy ways to backup your files in preparation for the worst. It’s the day before April Fools, and there is bound to a friend out there plotting to tamper with your computer in preparation for what they hope to be a prank of epic proportions. Luckily enough, some Reddit users had the foresight to mark March 31 as “World Backup Day.” If you’ve been putting it off — today might be the day to make it happen. It’s the one thing that we seem neglect to do despite the inevitability of a failed hard drive down the road. Hard drives are fragile technology, and technically not meant to be carried. (Although, if you own a solid state drive you’ll outlast your HDD counterparts.) When a hard drive breaks, your only option is to cry and start over, or [...]
