Mika Mobile to halt Android development

Bad news for Android gamers out there – the platform has lost another developer. Mika Mobile – the creators of Battleheart, a popular fantasy/strategy/action game; has announced that it will no longer be supporting Android. According to the blog post, the company isn’t making enough money selling Android games compared to the amount of time and money spent working on and supporting them. Here’s the main gist of what Mika Mobile had to say: “We spent about 20% of our total man-hours last year dealing with Android in one way or another – porting, platform specific bug fixes, customer service, etc.  I would have preferred spending that time on more content for you, but instead I was thanklessly modifying shaders and texture formats to work on different GPUs, or pushing out patches to support new devices without crashing, or walking someone through how to fix an installation that wouldn’t go [...]

28nm production halt could delay Snapdragon S4 products

Qualcomm have so far avoided chasing cores, saying that Nvidia’s Tegra 3 quad-core chip is “overkill”. Instead the company is hoping that the latest version of its Snapdragon chip, the S4 “Krait”, will provide enough performance with just two cores. While development platforms have gone out to various publications and developers for testing, the 28nm chip could be facing production delays, which would have a knock-on effect on phones like the HTC One X and One S. Semi Accurate reports that TSMC, who handle 28nm chip manufacturing, totally shut down production three weeks ago to make changes to the creation process. Apparently the halt was very sudden, with no given explanation for exactly what is being changed, and yields are apparently not an issue. TSMC aren’t giving up any details, publicly or privately, but do say production will resume in the coming weeks. All of this could lead to delays [...]

Rumor: Apple Pressuring Pegatron to Halt Production of Competing Laptops

It looks like Apple is trying to bully its way into exclusivity with one of its contracted manufacturers, Pegatron Technology. There have been rumors stating that the Asian iPhone manufacturer is facing quite a bit of pressure with a candid ultimatum from Apple: Stop taking new Ultrabook orders from Asus or else you will lose orders for our iOS devices. Ouch. According to Chinese news outlet Commercial Times, the controversial “if you’re not with us, you’re against us” demand was sparked by the similarities between Apple’s MacBook Air and the Asus Zenbook; the latter being released in October of last year. Pegatron currently assembles Asustek’s ultra-thin Zenbooks, but it will now reportedly halt production by the end of next month. Consequently, Asustek will have to outsource the Zenbook line to Taiwanese manufacturers Compal Electronics or Wistron Corp. In addition to its recent acquisition of iPhone orders, Pegatron is also looking [...]
